Scotty Frightens Big Guns

Scott Morland who at best this season has been inconsistent and at times abysmal went to Silksworth to play singles against internationals, EBA Champions and altogether class bowlers frightens the locals. April Profile – Barry Hopkins Snr

Barry joined South Park Bowls Club in the clubs Centenary and quickly established himself. He started in the Clubs B Team in the Darlington and District League and after a good performance in a Presidents match was promoted into the A Team by David Neil, a former long serving official and bowler of the club.

Barry has since gone on to be Club Champion, Town Champion and has had a run of success in the EBA National 4 Bowl Singles reaching the Durham County Final narrowly losing and also making a trip to Worthing for the All England Finals. He has also made many appearance for Durham County B and C Team.

Barry is now one of the clubs strongest regulars and has taken more of a “hands on” role to coaching and child protection. Barry can be thanked highly by the club for many young players that the club now has. The clubs future has been secured by Barry’s role and hopefully this has created a platform for the club to build from.

Going into the 2012 season Barry is the clubs Child Protection Officer and Captain of all of our teams.

May Profile – Glyn Jones

Glyn is the morale keeper of the team. Always making jokes and always has a smile on his face.
He is a vastly experienced player spanning into 5 decades, his conistency and love of the sport makes him a threat and he loves a win against big opposition.
Glyn was a Central BC player for many years being their main representative winning all sorts of club and local championships. He was also secretary, president and treasurer of their club before joining South Park BC around 6 years ago. He was persuaded to join after some unhappy times at Central and the influence of Tommy Richardson who sadly died unexpectedly in the same year.
Since then he has already been a South Park President and it seems as though he has been a player at the club forever.
Along with his experience comes that winning mentality and is winner of the Champion of Champions of all leagues hes played in, including Darlington & District League, Works League and CIU League.
Again this season we look forward to Glyns company and in the 3rd Division this year he is expected to win as many as most.
